My Best Tips on How to Keep Your Skin Hydrated

You hear me talking about keeping your skin hydrated all the time because it's critical to healthy skin. Hydrated skin has a beautiful glow and vibrancy to it. Well-hydrated skin also responds best to skin rejuvenation treatments. If I'm to recommend intensive skin treatments, we first need to make sure your skin is well-hydrated for the best results.

How Can You Tell If Your Skin Is Dehydrated?

Dehydrated skin is unbalanced skin, so it's essential to know the signs of dehydrated skin so that you know what to look for.

Usually, the first sign of dehydrated skin is tight and uncomfortable skin. You can experience tightness right after cleansing or at the end of the day after being out in a harsh environment. If your skin feels tight after cleansing, you may need to switch to a more moisturizing cleanser. If your skin feels tight at the end of the day, it may need a hydration boost with a serum or a more emollient cream to protect your skin hydration levels during the day.

Another sign of dehydrated skin is dull-looking skin. When there is a lack of moisture in the skin's surface layers, the skin will have a dull appearance. Dehydrated skin will often have a buildup of dead cells, making the skin look tired and lacklustre.

If your skin is flaking off in patches, it's gone beyond just dehydration. Now the skin barrier has been compromised and needs repairing.

Does Drinking Water Hydrate Skin?

Drinking lots of water is absolutely the best way you can re-hydrate your skin naturally from the inside. But it's important to lock that moisture in with an excellent protective hydrating cream to prevent that essential moisture from evaporating from the skin.

How Can You Hydrate Your Skin Naturally?

Drinking water is only one way to hydrate your skin from the inside naturally. There are several other ways you can increase water intake in your diet to help hydrate your skin and body.

  • Make sure you eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables that are high in water content. Try peaches, watermelon, grapefruit, lettuce, cucumber, celery, capsicum, and tomatoes.

  • Other foods high in water content include yogurt, stews, broths, and soups. Perfect for cool days!

  • Increase your water intake with delicious herbal teas and fruit-infused water.

What Are the Best Skin Hydration Products?

If you need to increase your skin hydration quickly, it's best done with topical product application. The best hydrating ingredient by far is hyaluronic acid, which can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water. This substance occurs naturally in our skin to hydrate our skin. If it's depleted, we can replenish hyaluronic acid with treatment creams and masks.
