WHY YOU NEED SKIN NEEDLING
A journey into the world of skin needling from two of the world’s leading authorities on the subject and, in the case of Dr Fernandes, the pioneer of the technique for regenerating skin and improving scars.
What is microneedling?
Microneedling is a minimally invasive skincare treatment that uses a device with fine needles to create tiny micro-injuries in the skin. These micro-injuries stimulate the body's natural healing process, encouraging collagen production and skin regeneration.
What does microneedling actually do?
Microneedling triggers the skin's repair process by creating controlled micro-injuries in the top layer of the skin (epidermis) and the dermis. This process boosts collagen and elastin production, resulting in firmer, smoother, and more youthful-looking skin. It can also reduce the appearance of wrinkles, scars, and enlarged pores.
What are the side effects of microneedling?
After a microneedling session, you may experience mild redness, swelling, or sensitivity, similar to a mild sunburn. These effects usually subside within 24-48 hours. Rarely, more sensitive skin types may experience minor irritation, dryness, or flaking.
What are the benefits of microneedling?
Microneedling helps:
- Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Smooth scars and stretch marks
- Tighten and firm the skin
- Improve overall skin texture and tone
- Enhance absorption of skincare products
- Promote healthier, more youthful skin
Who should avoid microneedling?
Microneedling may not suit those with active acne, rosacea, eczema, or other skin infections. It's also not recommended for individuals with blood clotting disorders, those who are pregnant or nursing, or people taking certain medications, such as blood thinners.
Is microneedling better than Botox?
YES!!! Microneedling and Botox work differently. Microneedling improves skin texture and promotes collagen production for natural, long-lasting results. Botox, on the other hand, temporarily relaxes facial muscles to smooth out wrinkles.
How long do microneedling results last?
Results from microneedling can last several months, depending on your skin type, age, and skincare routine. To keep your skin looking its best, regular maintenance sessions, typically every 6-12 months, are recommended.
Is microneedling painful?
While microneedling does involve tiny needles, most clients experience only mild discomfort. At Lili's Esthetics Studio, we use a topical numbing cream to ensure your comfort during the treatment.
What age group is microneedling for?
Microneedling is suitable for a wide range of age groups, typically from the late 20s and up. Younger clients use it as a preventative measure, while older clients enjoy its rejuvenating effects.
How often should microneedling be done?
For best results, a series of 3-6 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart is recommended. For scar treatment, 6-8 sessions may be needed. After completing the initial series, maintenance treatments can be done every 6-12 months.
Do you see results after the first microneedling session?
Yes, many clients notice an improvement in their skin's texture and glow after just one session. However, the full benefits of microneedling, like reduced wrinkles and scars, become more noticeable after several sessions.
How long does microneedling take?
Each microneedling session at Lili's Esthetics Studio lasts about 90 minutes, including time for numbing the skin.
How long after microneedling can I wear makeup?
It's best to wait at least 24 hours before applying makeup. This allows the tiny microchannels created by the treatment to close fully, reducing the risk of irritation or infection.
How long after microneedling can I shower?
You should wait at least 10-12 hours before showering or washing your face. To avoid irritation, use lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser.
Does your face peel after microneedling?
Peeling isn't very common but may occur for some clients, especially those with dry skin. Any peeling typically subsides within a few days as the skin heals and regenerates.
