Brightening Pigmentation - The Essentials You Need to Know About
To treat pigmentation successfully here is what you need to do:
Often after a sunny summer, and if we have not been very good with sunscreen or sun protection, we notice pigmentation problems in our skin. Pigmentation is one of the most challenging skin conditions to treat because it takes diligence to fade and prevent the problem from recurring. Prevention is absolutely the key when we manage pigmentation issues. If you have noticed uneven skin tone, brown spots or stains that make your skin look dull, then I have some expert tips to help you.
To treat pigmentation successfully, here is what you need to do:
1. EXFOLIATE
Exfoliate your skin once or twice a week to help remove dark dead cells from the skin's surface, making your skin look dull and uneven. Good exfoliation helps to brighten the skin instantly. The best exfoliants include alpha-hydroxy acids for deeper and more even exfoliation. AHAs can be part of our cleansing products, exfoliants, serums or night creams or even a mask, so ask me about the best one for your skin.
2. BRIGHTEN
Use a vitamin C serum. Vitamin C is known as a tyrosinase inhibitor. This means it helps to retard pigmentation. Build a vitamin c serum into your daily skincare routine to brighten existing pigmentation and help prevent future pigmentation.
3. PROTECT
A minimum SPF 30+ and ideally SPF 50+ broad-spectrum sunscreen is a must every single day. If you are not a fan of sunscreen, you will lose the battle in fighting pigmentation problems. UV light triggers pigmentation, so there's no way around it. You must wear good quality sunscreen every single day.
Every skin is different, so the approach for treating pigmentation will be very individual. If you are struggling with uneven skin tone, brown spots, or pigmentation issues, book an appointment with me to have a closer look at your skin, and we can work out a program appropriate for you.
